Petilla promises to restore power before Christmas

MANILA – Department of Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla on Monday promised the residents of Samar provinces, Leyte, and Biliran that power supply will be restored before Christmas.

“Definitely there will be power before Christmas because we don’t want you to have a dark Christmas,” said Petilla during a briefing.

Coming from his meeting with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), the damage brought about by typhoon “Ruby” still needs to be determined.

According to NCGP, they will conduct an aerial survey to better assess the damage.

From this, they will be able to come up with timelines as to when the power will be restored.

Meanwhile, Globe Telecom said that they are already working to restore communication lines by fixing their station located in Gigoso Village, Giporlos Town, Eastern Samar.

In a separate statement, Smart Communications Inc. (Smart) and Sun Cellular (Sun) claimed that their network operation services are working normally.

After the storm passed on Sunday evening, mobile phone coverage in the Northern Samar towns of Allen-Londres, San Isidro, Rosario, Bobon, Catarman, Yakal, Mondragon, San Roque, Laoan and Pambujan were already restored.
