MMDA placed on ‘red alert’ for onslaught of typhoon ‘Ruby’

MANILA — As Typhoon Ruby is expected to bring rains and winds in Metro Manila on Monday as it tracks Oriental Mindoro, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino on Sunday placed the agency on “red alert” status.

Tolentino, also head of Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDRRMC), said that the red alert status means that the agency is ready to conduct full deployment of its 600 personnel for emergency response and relief operations in Metro Manila.

Tolentino noted that their rescue units have been readied for possible operation and deployment especially in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas in the metropolis which is expected to be put under public storm warning signal no.
