Phl is most affected by climate change in 2013

MANILA – The Philippines tops the list of countries affected by the climate change in 2013, according to a new study.
Germanwatch, a German think-tank indicated on its report that the Philippines is the number 1 country greatly devastated by the effects of climate change last year.
The list of countries reported in the study includes:
- PHILIPPINES
- CAMBODIA
- INDIA
- MEXICO
- ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES
- PAKISTAN
- LAOS
- VIETNAM
- ARGENTINA
- MOZAMBIQUE
The study noted that for the last two decades more than 530,000 people died from 15,000 extreme weather disturbances worldwide.
In the Philippines, Typhoon Yolanda, with the international name, Typhoon Haiyan caused the death of 6,300 people and created more than 13 billion dollars in damage, according to the 2015 global Climate Risk.
“In the Philippines the Typhoon Haiyan was the strongest tropical storm to ever make landfall in the country and, as I said, framed the climate talks last year. Cambodia had severe floodings, and in India we had also cyclones hitting the country – the second largest on record,” Sonke Kreft, author of the Global Climate Risk Index, said.
“In the Philippines we have learned much. We know how to cooperate with international agencies, we know that the depth of damage is not just the tens of thousands and the rebuilding of homes, but the inner damage in the hearts and minds of children who may never be able to recover, of people who are psychologically dislocated.
I hope these components of the damage to all the other victims will be incorporated,”Heherson Alvarez, climate change commissioner for the Philippines, added.
