Kishida, Marcos agree to bolster ties on regional peace
MANILA – Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and presumptive president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. agreed to beef up ties to maintain regional peace and security.
The Japanese Embassy in Manila said Kishida, during a 15-minute phone call on Friday, has sought the support of Marcos for “the realization of a free and open Indo-Pacific.”
Kishida and Marcos “concurred on future coordination to realize regional peace and prosperity,” the embassy said.
Kishida, the embassy said, has also reaffirmed its commitment to continue engaging the Philippines on the economic front as well as in security and coast guard law enforcement fields.
“In response, President-elect Marcos stated that the relations with Japan are of utmost importance to the Philippines, and communicated his intention to deepen cooperation with Prime Minister Kishida in a wide range of areas,” the embassy quoted Marcos as saying.
“The two leaders concurred on coordinating bilaterally toward further strengthening the Japan–Philippines relations,” it said.
The embassy said Kishida and Marcos agreed to hold an in-person meeting “as early as possible.”

Keeping our ties with other countries is very important,it is essential to our economic growth ,to our security, and during crisis intervention. On the other hand, these ties comes with a price, commitment and loyalty unto which ever country who wants a “bond” with us.
Though Japan has good intentions of keeping a free Indo Pacific Region, for sure it will ruffle some sleeves when it comes to our relationship with China.
