CALGARY—About 300 people have attended a candlelight vigil to draw attention to a vicious sexual assault that took place at a Calgary bus stop last week.

Police say a 17-year-old girl was at a bus stop in the city’s northeast when she was attacked, dragged into an alley and sexually assaulted.

Officers say she was taken to a house where she was repeatedly sexually assaulted before she was able to escape the next morning.

Neighbourhood resident Wade Finn says he wanted to show his support for the victim, adding that if he had been there when it happened he would have put a stop to it.

Donna Eaton, who says her daughter was slain in a domestic assault, says people need to speak out and demand tougher sentencing.

Eaton says she was amazed by the number of people who attended the vigil.

Police have charged 25-year-old Corey Manyshots and his brother, 21-year-old Cody, with sexual assault causing bodily harm, assault causing bodily harm and kidnapping.
