Building rented by Comelec to replace red, green facade lights
MANILA – An official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday said the facade lights of the Palacio del Gobernador in Intramuros, Manila, which houses several offices of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), will be changed.
“The Comelec is a tenant in that building, which is under the management of Office of the President. I have been told that the building’s administration is planning to swap out these ones for differently colored lights,” poll body spokesperson James Jimenez said in a Twitter post.
The poll body official added that the building administrator immediately acted after the matter was brought to their attention.
“When this was pointed out to them, they immediately moved to rectify,” Jimenez said.
Netizens earlier questioned the use of red and green lights in illuminating the building which they perceived as showing partisanship.
Red and green are the campaign colors of presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and his running mate, presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.
Several offices of the Comelec, including the offices of the chairman and commissioners, are occupying two floors of the building.
