MANILA — House independent bloc leader and Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez on Monday personally thanked his colleagues led by Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. and the employees of the House of Representatives for their immediate relief operations and financial assistance last year to help the survivors of super typhoon Yolanda.

Romualdez, who was the guest speaker during the flag-raising ceremony at the House of Representatives, recalled the kindness of officials and employees.

“I express my heartfelt gratitude for everything that you have done and extended and continue to perform and extend to help our constituents who were devastated by super typhoon Yolanda,” Romualdez told attendees.

He said he remembered how House officers and staff organized relief operations for the Yolanda victims.

With this, he said that it gives them more strength and inspirations to save more lives and help the needy victims.

He thanked all the people who showed in one way or another their concern to the Yolanda victims.

“Your kindness has gone a long, long way. The determination and hope that you have kept burning in their hearts are seeing them through in their journey to the prosperous and peaceful future we all aspire for,” Romualdez pointed out.

Romualdez also took the opportunity in thanking Yolanda survivors for their resiliency and all those who helped especially the international donors.

“So join me in extending our salute to Yolanda’s victims. Let us also extend our deepest gratitude to our countrymen for their sacrifices, kindness and continued dedication to the recovery and rehabilitation of the victims,” Romualdez pointed out.

He also thanked the international community who wasted no time in sending aid and their experts right after Yolanda’s fury to jumpstart relief efforts.

Super typhoon Yolanda affected 1.5 million families of whom 918,261 were outrightly displaced. Government official figures were placed at 6,300 deaths, 1,061 missing and 28,689 injured.
