Arraignment of Elenita Binay set on Thursday
MANILA — Former Makati Mayor Elenita Binay, wife of Vice President Jejomar Binay is set to be arraigned by the Sandiganbayan this Thursday on graft and malversation charges.
Binay was charged for her supposed involvement in the alleged overpriced purchase of hospital equipment worth more than P40 million more than 10 years ago.
Binay is currently facing two counts of graft and two counts of malversation.
The Sandiganbayan Third Division has recently dismissed her motion to suspend the proceedings on the charges filed against her.
A resolution penned by Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang and Associate Justices Samuel Martires and Alex Quiroz noted that the court also ordered the issuance of a warrant of arrest against Binay.
The Third Division also pointed out on its November 14 resolution that “the Court does not find any more legal impediment to the continuation of the proceedings in these cases.
