MANILA – Dismissing the Vice President’s explanations as implausible, a priest from the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines said that he finds Binay presidency a scary prospect.

“I don’t believe him, his explanations were unconvincing and I’m scared at the thought of him becoming President,” Fr. Edu Gariguez, the executive secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines’ (CBCP) National Secretariat for Social Action, Justice and Peace (Nassa), said.

The statement was made yesterday during the Catholic Church’s press briefing for the rehabilitation program of the survivors of the Supertyphoon “Yolanda.”

Gariguez accompanied public affairs head of the CBCP Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo to met with Binay.

He, however, clarified that his statement is coming from his personal opinion and is therefore not reflective of the official stand of the CBCP.

Responding to earlier calls for the president to resign because of the delayed efforts of the government to help the Yolanda-devastated areas, Gariguz said that he did not supported such calls for resignation as he do not want the Vice President to succeed him from the post.

“I don’t want to call for Aquino’s resignation because Binay will replace him. And that’s even worse, it’s scary,” he said.

“With all the anomalies happening …. The situation with P-Noy is that he’s very inefficient. If Binay replaces him, it would be more than just a matter of efficiency. It will be a combination of past administrations like Joseph Estrada who is popular, at the same time Imeldific like the Marcoses … with houses as big as a palace,” he added.
