DAR should get ‘Binay land’ in Batangas — Miriam
MANILA – The government should acquire the Batangas property alleged owned by Vice President Jejomar Binay and distribute it to the farmers, instead, according to Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago.
Santiago said in a press conference that she will be filing a resolution to the Senate stressing the need for the Department of Agrarian Reform to seize the property that is currently under investigation by the senate committee.
Santiago, a former agrarian reform secretary, added that the owner of the property is currently unknown.
Former Makati Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado, who testified in the senate hearing against the Vice President, has accused Binay of owning the land.
Binay, however, is claiming that the property is owned by businessman Antonio Tiu, a statement confirmed by the latter.
Tiu claimed that he bought the property from a certain Laureano Gregorio, showing an unnotarized 1-page agreement of sale between him and Gregorio.
