6 rescued fishermen in PH Rise transported to Quezon

MANILA – The BRP Andres Bonifacio (PS-17) has safely transported six distressed fishermen and their damaged fishing vessel to the Port of Dinahican in Infanta, Quezon on Thursday.

“The custody of the said fishermen was later on turned over to the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (LDRRM) Team of Municipality of Infanta. Vital signs were checked by Infanta LDRRM to the rescued fishermen and were subsequently given clean bill of health,” Naval Forces Southern Luzon (NFSL) spokesperson Lt. Regeil Gatarin said in a statement on Thursday night.

He added that the crew of BRP Andres Bonifacio also helped in the repairs of the damaged fishing vessel, “Mr. Kupido”, shortly the rescue of the six fishermen some 26.7 nautical miles southeast of Benham Bank, Philippine Rise at around 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

The rescued fishermen, who were all from Quezon, were identified as Jayson R. Buheda, 26 and the boat captain; Legaspi Villanueva, 71; Christopher M. Querez, 45; Mario Burod, 50; Armando Mise, 53; and Tony C. Reyes.

The Navy ship was patrolling near the Philippine Rise when it rescued the six fishermen.

“The Philippine Navy continues to be vigilantly ready when called upon in any emergencies to render assistance to the Filipino people in times of need,” Gatarin said.
