Palace mourns death of ex-senator Flavier

MANILA — Malacanang on Thursday expressed sympathy with the family of former Senator and former Health Secretary Juan Flavier who succumbed from multiple organ failure brought about by pneumonia.

”We join the Filipino people in mourning the death of former Senator and Health Secretary Juan Flavier,” Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a statement.

Coloma said the popular Flavier championed the cause of countryside development and upgraded the quality of public health care.

”He served with integrity and endeared himself to the public by dint of his humility, simplicity, jovial character and common touch,” Coloma said. “Truly, he was an exemplary Filipino leader.

”

Most loved and respected, Flavier served as Department of Health (DOH) Secretary from 1992 to 1995 and has been recognized as one of the most industrious legislators of the 10th, 11th and 12th Congress.
