MANILA – As President Aquino goes back to saying that he is in the last two minutes of his term, the issue of extending his term seems to be dead.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. indirectly hinted on this as he said that Aquino told  the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP) that he wanted to focus on finding the right successor.

Aquino mentioned this so-called “last two minutes of his term” during the Philippine Business Conference and Expo on Friday.

The President added that he is urging government departments to concentrate on maximizing the remaining year of his term in giving service to the public.

Coloma added that Aquino emphasized his goal of amending the constitution only for clipping the powers of the judiciary and for updating the economic provisions.

“Even if I were to get a second term, it cannot rest on just one individual. The empowerment of the people and their ability to get a candidate that really responds to them is, I think, the legacy that one would have,” Aquino said during the FOCAP forum last Wednesday.

“Even if I were to have a second term, that would still be a need, a personal need of mine (to) prove the maxim that ‘the measure of success is your ability to train your successor’ works in the country or is operative in the Philippines,” Aquino added.
