OCCIDENTAL MINDORO — The Department of Health (DOH) IV-B MIMAROPA said over the weekend that it is exerting effort in producing more medical technologist needed in its modernized hospital accreditations in Region IV-B.

“At present we have an existing scholarship program for nurses, pharmacists, midwifes who wants to get a second course on Medical Technology in order to fill-up that need,” DOH Region IV-B Regional Director Eduardo Janairo in an interview with the Philippines News Agency.

Director Janairo cited also that currently, about 6 chosen scholars by the Region IV-B are taking a second course on Medical Technology and one of them came from this province.

“So in 2 years time, this province will be having one new Med. Technologist here (Occidental Mindoro),” he added.

He also added that as a strategic solution in solving the quite “inadequacy” of some doctors in other areas of Region IV-B they are currently assessing the proposal for a “step-ladder program school”.

Under that proposal, interested and qualified health workers from Region IV-B who wants to avail of the program can study in Palawan and other four state universities.

He added that through that program they are aiming that health workers that will be qualified to study and graduate will be the ones that will serve with most dedications to their provinces especially in the remote ones or islands (surrounded with bodies of water) in MIMAROPA as part of “giving back”.

He further added that as of now to address the problem of having not enough doctors in some island provinces in MIMAROPA, the DOH IV-B is funding the deployment of some private doctors who will serve the communities therein on a schedule basis.

“We will also discuss this together with OB-Gyne and Surgeons of Philippine Medical Association (PMA) and Philippine Medical Society (PMS) so that we can fully serve the maternal and health needs of the people especially in island-barangays of MIMAROPA,” the regional director added.
