Gov’t to go extra mile for ‘genuine’ public service

MANILA – Malacañang on Friday pledged that President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration will go another extra mile to ensure that the Filipino will feel “genuine” public service from government workers.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo made the vow after the Dec. 13 to 16, 2019 poll by Social Weather Stations (SWS) found that 81 percent of Filipinos were satisfied with the performance of the Duterte government while only 7 percent said otherwise.

SWS’ poll results yielded an “excellent” +73 net satisfaction score, up by one grade from September 2019’s “very good” +67.

Panelo welcomed the results of the survey, saying these indicate that the majority of Filipinos believe that the government, which continues to be “transparent and responsive,” is performing an “exceptional” job under Duterte’s leadership.

“All Filipinos are assured that the survey finding would not cause the Duterte Administration to be complacent but instead serve as an inspiration for us to take another extra mile in rendering genuine service for our people and be a source of courage for our dedicated public servants in fighting the challenges that our country is facing today,” he said.

Panelo said Duterte remains focused on his goal of giving every Filipino a comfortable life and creating an environment of peace and progress for the country.

He added that Duterte would continue fulfilling his mandate to serve and protect the people without minding the “destructive narratives” thrown to him by the “incorrigible fault-finders and detractors who have been constantly repudiated by the overwhelming majority of the Filipinos.”

In a separate statement, Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar attributed the high public satisfaction to the “performance of all cabinet officials, hardworking government personnel, and the strong leadership and political will of President Duterte.”

Andanar said the survey results merely prove that Filipinos, especially those who are from impoverished communities, are having a “dignified life,” as the government continues to take “comprehensive” actions in addressing societal problems and providing the necessary public needs and services.

“Furthermore, this is a hard blow not only to the critics of this administration, but also to those who doubt the sincerity of this administration’s promise to all Filipinos of collective development,” he said.

He also said no one will be left behind in the “continuous growth and progress of the Philippines,” amid the implementation of the Duterte administration’s policies and reforms.

“This government will continue to work hard to deliver President Duterte’s legacy of a prosperous and comfortable life for all Filipinos,” he said.
