McDavid has now hopefully started a winning streak after receiving their first 2019 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Developmental League (D-League) victory of the season, getting past a winless Family Mart-Enderun, 73-68, at the JCSGO Gym in Cubao last Monday, April 8.

Former San Beda Red Lion Michole Sorela scored 19 of his 22 points in the first half alone, sparking the fire in his team early. He was aided by ex-pro Jerwin Gaco, who had a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds. Janus Lozada also contributed double-digit scoring at 14 points and three rebounds, while Rev Diputado totalled 12 points, three rebounds, and three assists. For Enderun, it was Valandre Chauca and Fonso Gotladera who played exceptionally with 17 points and 16 points respectively, Chauca with almost triple-double adding 10 assists and seven rebounds and big-man Gotladera with a double-double, contributing 15 boards. However, it still was not enough to get their team a win, still standing at a 0-5 win-loss record in the Aspirants Group.

As McDavid improved their standing at 1-4, head coach Allen Ricardo shared in Filipino, “We just managed our half-court defense,” specifically applauding one specific player, saying, “I turned to Jerwin inside and I told him to bully his way in the paint. And that’s what happened.”

McDavid will try to ride on this victory to bag another one as they face Cignal-Ateneo next at the same venue on Tuesday, April 16. Family Mart-Enderun, on the other hand, will try to finally receive that first win on Monday, April 22 against the Batangas EAC Generals also in Cubao.
