It was an almost 20-point win for Marinerong Pilipino over CD14 Designs-Trinity University of Asia for their 2019 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Developmental League (D-League) matchup last Monday, March 25 at the JCSGO Gym in Cubao.

Former De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archer Santi Santillan had a breakthrough game with a stunning double-double of 29 points and 10 rebounds, with 13 of those points in the third quarter, providing his team a 65-48 lead. He was aided by Orlan Wamar, who contributed 10 points, with 3-of-5 shooting beyond the arc. Anton Asistio, on the other hand, did not disappoint as well with nine points and three assists.

As for Trinity, AJ Vitug was the top-scorer at 19 points and three rebounds, followed by newly-recruited Chris De Chavez, who performed with 15 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. But, it was lack of help from their other teammates that failed to get them the win.

“I told them that we always need to give our best effort in practice,” shared Marinerong Pilipino head coach Yong Garcia, “That is where we form as a team especially because our players are up and down with their performance. Good thing now, the results have shown.”

Santillan, hailing from Cebu, commended Coach Yong Garcia for his career-high performance, saying, “He told me ‘Do your shooting, your extra work and I’ll also do my extra work in practice.’ That’s where it all starts,” also applauding teammates Kib Montalbo and Asistio stating, “Of course, it’s a huge help that I know them outside basketball. We always keep in touch so that we achieve our goals that we set for one another.”

Marinerong Pilipino now stands with a 3-2 win-loss record in the Foundation Group, while Trinity remains winless. Trinity will search for that victory as they go against the CEU Scorpions next at the same venue on Monday, April 8, while Marinerong Pilipino’s next game is on Tuesday, April 16 against CEU as well.
