Che’Lu Bar and Grill snagged another victory in the 2019 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Developmental League (D-League), conquering McDavid, 109-99, at the JCSGO Gym, Cubao last Monday, March 25.

Rey Suerte led the way for Che’Lu, with a season-high of 26 points and 10-of-17 from the field. He also chipped five rebounds, two assists, and two blocks; with the Cebuano scoring six of the team’s last eight points of the game. Chris Dumapig also performed with a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds coming off the bench, while Jay Collado and Robbie Manalang contributed double digits as well with 13 points each. University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 81 star Sean Manganti chipped 10 out of his 11 points in the first half. Jhaps Bautista played a part in the Revellers win as well, ending his game with 10 points, eight assists, and six rebounds. Due to their back-to-back victories, Che’Lu Bar and Grill now stands 3-1 at the top of the Aspirants Group tied with Cignal-Ateneo.

For the opposing McDavid, it was former PBA professional and Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Datu Cup player Jerwin Gaco that shone with 20 points and eight rebounds, while teammate Jason Melano added the same number of points. However, their team still remains at the bottom of the standings still winless.

Che’Lu Head Coach Stevenson Tiu did not shy away from expressing both his happiness for their back-to-back victories, but disappointment as well with his team’s tendency to relax, stating in Filipino, “We need to address that against stronger and faster teams. Maybe that is what we need to talk about next practice because we really have that tendency to relax.”

Che’Lu will next try to continue their winning streak on Monday, April 15 at the same venue, as they face Go for Gold – College of Saint Benilde (CSB) for the second game of the day. McDavid will also be returning to the JCSGO Gym, but on Monday, April 8; continuing their search for a win as they face Family Mart – Enderun College.
