MANILA — President Rodrigo R. Duterte has named Court of Appeals (CA) Justice Amy Lazaro-Javier as the newest Supreme Court (SC) Associate Justice, Malacañang said on Wednesday.
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo welcomed the appointment of Javier, who was appointed to the CA as one of its associate justices in 2007.
“Associate Justice Javier is a welcome addition to the High Court with her vast legal experience in the government which spans for more than three decades,” Panelo said in a statement.
“We are confident that Associate Justice Javier, as a new guardian of the rule of law, would display a high degree of competence, integrity and independence during her stint at the Supreme Court,” he added.
He said a copy of Javier’s appointment paper would be furnished to the media once it becomes available.
Javier is a magna cum laude education graduate of the Philippine Normal University (PNU).
She obtained her law degree at the University of Santo Tomas (UST).
She began her career in public service as a trial attorney in the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) in 1983 and later became Assistant Solicitor-General thereat in 1994.
