STA.CRUZ, Laguna — Laguna Governor Ramil L. Hernandez announced that the national government has approved the construction of the coastal road that will run along the towns the Laguna de Bay costing Php123 billion.

The Laguna Lakeshore Expressway-Dike Project (LLEDP) is the biggest project of the Aquino administration aimed not only to control flooding in the coastal towns of Laguna and southern Metro Manila but also to revive the lake.

President Benigno Aquino II was prompted to implement this project when he saw the adverse effects of the strong typhoons that ravaged the coastal communities around Laguna Lake these past years.

The LLEDP will protect more than 200,000 households or around a million Filipinos living in these areas.

Moreover, this project will provide greater opportunities for the province in terms of economic activities and facilitation of transport both for products and for people – boosting the province’s management of resources and providing efficient modes of transportation.

Gov. Ramil is expecting the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to present him with the plan of the lakeshore project within the week and hopes that this will be undertaken soon.

Gov. Hernandez further said that this project will take years to finish so we will still experience flooding, especially now that the rainy season is here. He has already given instructions to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMC) to set up all equipment and to ready its manpower for any eventualities.
