SAN FABIAN, Pangasinan — Pangasinan fourth district Rep. Christopher De Venecia on Monday urged would be barangay youth leaders to deliver youth empowerment initiatives.

In an interview with newsmen after casting his votes at Bolasi Elementary School here, De Venecia stressed that Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) is not just about sports league.

“SK is for youth empowerment, so I urged them to create and implement programs using their funds for youth empowerment initiatives,” he said.

De Venecia suggested projects such as computer education and proper use of social media.

“They should teach their constituents to do business, so they would have additional income,” he added.

De Venecia also underscored the importance of human immuno virus (HIV) awareness campaign, which he said is very prevalent at present.

“SK has a lot of potential,” he said.

De Venecia also applauded the young leaders who have participated in the SK election this year, amid low turn-out of those who filed their certificates of candidacy.

“I am excited and I look forward to working with them for the betterment of our youth sector,” he said.

De Venecia further said he was also thrilled with the first implementation of the SK reform law.

“Finally, we will get to see if the SK reform law is effective and this election also gave chance to our youth leaders to serve,” he added.
