MANILA — In response to a Catholic Bishop’s demand that they apologize to the public, Senators Juan Ponce Enrile and Jinggiy Estrada said there is no reason for them to ask forgiveness.

Despite the plunder charges against them, the two senators are not making an apology saying they are not sentenced yet.

“There is no reason for us to be stressed. Regarding the apology they’re demanding – why should we apologize? We’re not yet sentenced. Our trial is just getting started, right?” Enrile told reporters in a phone interview.

Estrada also added that the CBCP has no basis in asking them to  apologize because his conscience is clear.

“Me? Why will I say sorry? Why should I apologize? There is no basis for me apologizing because my conscience is clear,” said Estrada.

Estrada also lamented that waiting for the issuance of the warrant of arrest against him has already been a “mental toture.”

Enrile, who said he continues to read books and plays his favourite games on his iPad, advised the senator to relax, and keep the stress away.

“Stay cool and always pray,” Enrile advised Estrada and Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr.

, another senator who was also charged with plunder.

Enrile said that he plans to continue working on the history of political theory while inside jail and that he will be bringing with him a copy of Nelson Mandela’s biography.
