MANILA — Two collection districts of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) have recorded a surplus in their April collection amounting to PHP12 million, the Bureau announced Friday.

The BOC reported that the ports of Aparri and Davao hit their collection targets for this month, based on the preliminary figures from the Bureau’s Financial Service.

“Port of Aparri, the first port to hit its target, collected PHP8 million against its PHP4 million monthly target. The port has a surplus of PHP5 million, 94% higher than its April target,” it said.

“Port of Davao is the 2nd collection district of the Bureau of Customs to hit the collection target for April, collecting a surplus of PHP7 million,” the BOC added.

Commissioner Isidro Lapena commended the efforts of the Port of Davao and Port of Aparri making the ports “an example to all other ports not just to hit the target but to exceed it.

The report also said that as early as 4:45 p.m. of April 19, a week before the end of the collection month, Collection District XII collected PHP1.498 billion against the PHP1.491 billion target.

This month’s collection is one of the quickest target-hit performances of the Port of Davao: just 19 days of the month. In February 2018, the Davao port of also hit its PHP1.449 billion target just 13 days of the collection month.

District Collector lawyer Romalino Valdez attributed the accomplishment to the investments the Bureau has put into its human resources.

“The Port’s performance is brought about by its personnel. This is the result of the investments the Bureau has put into its men and women,” he said.

The Port of Davao official acknowledged the importers who help the Bureau in reaching its target.

“It is also important to thank our importers for doing their part in funding the government’s projects and programs,” Valdez added.

The Davao port also posted a surplus of 31.1 percent or PHP1.33 billion in the first quarter of 2018, when it collected PHP5.6 billion against the PHP4.28 billion target.
