Roque, in a press briefing in Tabuk, Kalinga, said that this figure is an increase of 0.6 percentage point from 2016.

Malacañang clarified on February 26 that the bloodless Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) revolution is not a product of fake news.

“According to the law, it is not fake news.

According to the law, we honor the EDSA Revolution having declared it as a public holiday.

We even have appropriate funds to commemorate the event,” Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque, Jr. said in a news conference.

He then stressed, “So we still recognize and we will always recognize EDSA not only as an important historical event, but it was the first bloodless people power revolution in the whole planet earth, and it remains significant.”

This was after Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Assistant Secretary Margaux “Mocha” Uson, a staunch supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte posted on her blog page on February 25 a poll, asking “Naniniwala ba kayo na ang 1986 EDSA PEOPLE POWER ay isang produkto ng FAKE NEWS (Do you believe that the 1986 EDSA People Power is a product of fake news)?” which resulted in 84% saying yes, and the remaining 16% answering no.

While the poll’s numbers had ‘yes’ as a landslide win, the top comments of the poll were discussing how EDSA revolution was a historical event that should not even be associated with fake news.

Facebook user Madonna Tacotaco Sandison said, “How ironic… Duterte just agreed that today, the people needs na magkaisa (to unite) for EDSA. And here his ASec dividing the people.”

Fami Garcia Casimiro said, “No it is not. Please read true historical accounts of this before concluding things. I pity those who fought for the good.”

Another user Michael Anthoony Curan said, “Nope. I support Duterte but please, even Duterte didn’t consider EDSA as a product of fake news. Yes he respected [Ferdinand] Marcos as a leader but he never said he tolerated those violations done during Martial Law. To say EDSA Revolution is a product of fake news is ignorance.”

The said poll with over 2,700 shares on Facebook once again brought the Assistant Secretary in hot waters.
