Government keeping an eye on spate of killings – Palace
MANILA – The government is keeping an eye on the spate of killings specifically involving high-profile crimes, Presidential Communication Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Sonny Coloma said on Sunday.
In an interview with Radyo ng Bayan, Coloma said the government is not ignoring the crime incidents in the country.
”The government remains vigilant because every life of every Filipino is important and we are trying to solve those crime incidents,” Coloma said.
He said the law enforcers are running after the infiltrators who put in danger the lives of the people in the community.
On whether the spate of killings should warrant revamp in the Philippine National Police, Coloma said Malacanang would rather leave the matter to PNP chief Alan Purisima.
”We are leaving the matter to our PNP chief who gets guidance from Secretary (Mar Roxas) of Interior and Local Government,” Coloma said.
Coloma said the PNP is specifically investigating the high-profile inmates who sought medical treatment outside their New Bilibid Prison without the approval of the Department of Justice.
”We are expecting the results of the findings from the PNP,” Coloma said.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has relieved NBP superintendent Fajardo Lansangan and 12 jail guards as a result of the hospitalization of the high-profile inmates in the private hospitals.
