The residence of the prominent folk musician Freddie Aguilar was hit by fire late Tuesday night.

According to a radio report by dzBB, the fire in Ka Freddie’s house in Barangay North Fairview, Quezon City started at around 11:06 p.m. of January 2. It had reached the First Alarm and was put out at 11:39 p.m. the same day.

Ka Freddie’s son, Jeriko, was in the ground-floor music room when he heard several popping noises.

Upon hearing the noises, he went out of the room to see where it was coming from until he saw that the ceiling of their first floor was charred by the fire.

Jeriko immediately warned his mother, Jovie, who was on the second floor of the house. Jovie, along with her mother, tried to get to the ground floor, however the smoke was too thick. The two used the balcony to climb to their roof, and after some time, they managed to make it to their neighbor’s roof.

No one was reportedly hurt in the fire, but Ka Freddie lamented that many of his personal belongings and important memorabilia, including some of his original recordings, awards, and musical instruments turned into ashes. The only thing that was saved from the fire was his guitar.

The damage on the musician’s home has been estimated to be between P13-million to P15-million, according to a News To Go report.

Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) officials are looking into whether the fire was caused by overloading of electrical circuits or a leak in the ceiling.
