Cardinal Tagle’s voice to help reconstruct damaged churches in Leyte and Samar
MANILA — Aside from musician-composer Ryan Cayabyab, Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle will sing in a June 11 benefit concert to rebuild churches in Leyte and Samar provinces damaged by super typhoon “Yolanda” last year.
The head of the Archdiocese of Manila is going to perform during the concert to be held at the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila on Wednesday.
Fr. Reggie Malicdem, secretary of the Archbishop of Manila, said the Cardinal will likely sing a surprise song.
However, Peachy Yamsuan, of the Archdiocese of Manila’s Office of Communications, said that she would not be surprised if Tagle will sing “The Warrior is a Child,” popularized by singer Gary Valenciano, as this is his favorite song.
Tagle earlier sang the same song during a benefit concert in his hometown, Cavite.
The “Rise! Rebuilding from the Ruins” concert, organized by Caritas Manila, aims to gather P20 million to help reconstruct the churches and chapels destroyed by super typhoon Yolanda in Samar and Leyte.
The social action arm of the Archdiocese of Manila, has earlier posted a picture of His Eminence rehearsing with Cayabyab on their Twitter account @CaritasManila.
Among the Yolanda hit-churches that will be rebuilt through the money raised from the concert are the Our Lady of Fatima Chapel and the St. Scholastica Chapel in Palo, Leyte.
