The Marcoses had invited House members and senators, even President Rodrigo Duterte to join the celebration.

However, Duterte said he is not interested in attending since he is in Davao and is expected to fly to Manila Monday night.

Furthermore, September 11 was declared a non-working holiday in Ilocos Norte, a request by the Marcoses granted by Duterte.

Despite drawing criticisms, Duterte defended his decision, saying there was nothing wrong with declaring September 11 a holiday because for the Ilocanos, Marcos is their hero.

“They say that Marcos is a bad person. That is a sentiment not shared by all,” Duterte said.
