The Senate decided to detain the former Bureau of Customs (BOC) Chief Nicanor Faeldon on Tuesday after the latter fulfilled his promise to not attend the probe into the P6.4-billion drug smuggling scandal at the BOC.

Faeldon announced last Friday that he will go to the Senate on Monday not to join in the investigation but to have himself arrested.

On Monday morning, Faeldon, with his garments and personal belongings, showed up at the Senate and headed straight to the Office of the Sergeant of Arms.

According to Senator Richard Gordon, Chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, Faeldon is under “temporary incarceration for not following orders.”

When asked how long Faeldon will be detained, Gordon said that it’s until he decides to participate in the investigation or until the senate says he may go.
