Charice celebrates ‘coming out day’ after a year
MANILA — Charice Pempengco celebrates her ‘coming out’ day in social media, a year after she admitted that she was a lesbian.
June 2, last year, Charice revealed for the first time, that she was a lesbian, in an interview with Boy Abunda in The Buzz.
“It’s been a year since I came out. (JUNE 2, 2013) This day is not just for me but for all the people all over the world who had the strength to come out and be who they are,” Charice wrote in an Instagram post.
In the same interview, Charice also admitted that she was in a relationship with Alyssa Quijano, a comedienne she met while working as a judge in The X-Factor Philippines.
“To others who still feel scared to tell the world, it’s okay. We’ve all been there and one day, you will find the strength to tell everyone. Be strong and always know that YOU, my friend, are not alone,” Charice added.
Charice stepped up to stardom after she was invited by US TV talk show host Ellen DeGeneres on her program in 2007. This was after Charice’s YouTube videos became a hit.
Charice was also able to perform on the Oprah Winfrey Show, and was able to release her self-titled debut album in 2008.
Two years later, she also appeared in Glee as Sunshine Corazon, a Filipino exchange student.
