ATI launches farmers’ field school on pig farming
STA. CRUZ, Laguna— The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in the Calabarzon Region has launched its Farmers’ Field School on Sustainable Pig Farming (FFSSPF) at the Time Plaza of the Laguna Provincial Capitol here.
During the launching, Laguna Governor Ramil L. Hernandez led some 150 farmers from the province as beneficiaries of the ATI’s enhanced swine raising project.
Hernandez committed to implement various interventions to help Laguna constituents and support activities for the farmers’ welfare through his signing of the pledge of commitment before scores of project beneficiaries during the event.
He also shared with the farmer-beneficiaries from Alaminos, Famy, Mabitac and Pagsanjan that his father was also into swine raising to augment his income.
Based on data sourced from the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Calabarzon regional office, the Calabarzon region comprising Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon provinces includes agribusiness among its income opportunities and ranks second in the country’s hog raising occupation.
FFSSPF is an improved technology and extension modality of the ATI International Training Center on Pig Husbandry which was adopted by ATI Calabarzon for implementation within the region.
FFSSPF, which will run for 16 to 20 weeks, aims to provide an alternative sustainable and affordable swine raising technology for commercial and backyard swine farmers in the region.
