A woman lost her right arm in an accident at the Metro Rail Transit-3’s (MRT) Ayala station in Makati on Tuesday afternoon.

The victim was identified by the MRT-3’s security head as Angeline Fernando, 24 years old, of Pasay City.

Transport undersecretary for rails Cesar Chavez said that Fernando had just stepped her feet out of the train at the Ayala northbound platform when she felt dizzy and fell to the station’s tracks.

According to an Inquirer report, Chavez narrated that just as the train was about to leave the station, Fernando got caught between the coupler which connects the first and second train car, cutting her right arm.

Chavez also said that the accident happened at around 2:30 p.m.

The woman was rushed to the Makati Medical Center.

Chavez said that Fernando is already safe from harm, and that the cost of the victim’s hospitalization would be handled by the MRT-3, quoting a report from MRT Ayala station supervisor Raffy Robles.

The report added that during the time of the accident, the station was not busy as there were only few passengers on the platform because of the holidays.

Due to this, a provisional service from North Avenue to Shaw Boulevard at around 3:06 p.m was implemented by the MRT-3. Chavez said normal operations resumed immediately after the incident.

The transport undersecretary has also ordered to make the CCTV footage available to the police and media as the incident is being investigated.
