DUMAGUETE CITY— The local government of Dumaguete City, through the City Agriculturist’s Office, is currently in the process of implementing the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC)-funded Integrated Community Food Production (ICFP) program.

The project, which has a funding of PHP2 million from NAPC, targets to benefit 200 households in eight barangays of Dumaguete, the capital of Negros Oriental province, namely Tinago, Bagacay, Junob, Talay, Cadawinona, Candau-ay, Batinguel, and Camanjac, City Agriculturist William Ablong said Thursday.

According to Ablong, these barangays were identified to have a “high incidence in hunger and malnutrition among their constituents”.

ICFP, he explained, “aims to eliminate hunger among poor families, reduce the incidence of malnutrition, and increase family income”.

“It empowers the people to produce their food requirements within their own homes through fruit, vegetable, and root crop gardening, small poultry and livestock-raising,” Ablong said.

A kick-off activity, the ICFP Orientation and Training, reeled off Wednesday, held at the Provincial Agriculturist’s Conference Hall.

This was followed by Vegetable, Fruit and Crop Production training on Thursday and Organic Fertilizer Production, Livestock and Poultry Production on Friday.

The training aims to empower the beneficiaries-participants in acquiring the necessary skills to improve their living conditions through animal/livestock-raising and food production to increase their food security as well as help them earn additional income, the City Agriculturist said.
