Korea bags 3rd gold in Asian Youth Bowling Tilt

MANILA — Yang Da Som and Lee Jung Min won the girls’ doubles event on Tuesday to give Korea its third gold medal in the ongoing 19th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships at the Coronado Lanes, EDSA Starmall.

The Korean pair tallied 2530 pinfalls to win over Singapore’s Charlene Lim and Jermaine Seah (2345) and the Philippines’ Bea Hernandez and Nina de Vera (2322).

Malaysia’s Nur Ameerahusnia and Nur Amirah Auni submitted 2317 pinfalls to settle for fourth place, while Australia’s Emma Williamson and Chloe Jones, who tallied 2323 pinfalls, finished fifth.

Korea also ruled the boys’ doubles competition, with Han Jae Hyeon and Lee Ju Hyung submitting a total of 2698 pinfalls to win the gold medal. The silver medal went to Indonesians Paolo Hernandez and Billy Muhammad (2639), while Koreans Park Geong H and Lim Seong Lyul got the bronze medal with 2619 pinfalls.

Korea’s first gold medal was courtesy of Kim Ye Sol, who tallied 1330 pinfalls in the girls’ singles finals on Sunday. Malaysian Nur Amirah Auni bagged the silver medal with 1321 pinfalls while Japanese Shion Izumune, a bronze medalist in the 2015 Asian School Masters, had a total of 1299 pinfalls to take the bronze.

Meanwhile, the Team of Four event, to be played over two blocks of three games each, will be held on October 25-26. The top 16 players in the boys’ and girls’ divisions based on the All-Events standings (18 games total) will qualify for the Round-Robin Match Play Masters finals over two blocks on October 27-28. The top three boys and top three girls will proceed to the stepladder finals.
