Cordillera exec optimistic of better performing LGUs
BAGUIO CITY – The Regional Competitiveness Council (RCC) in the Cordillera remains optimistic that more local government units (LGUs) in the region will continue to climb the ladder of success in the competitiveness rankings that will sustain the delivery of quality service to the people.
RCC vice chair Mayor Mauricio Domogan in an interview on Monday said the performance of LGUs in the recent competitiveness rankings should serve as a continuing challenge for local officials to continue improving their performance.
The Cordillera Region fared well in the last national competitiveness council with the town of Bauko, Mountain Province placing second in the 3rd to 6th class municipalities in the Government Efficiency Indicator. It bested 858 other municipalities in the same category in the whole country.
The four indicators which were adjudged are government efficiently, economic dynamism, infrastructure, and resilience from calamities.
Government efficiency refers to the quality and reliability of government services and government support for effective and sustainable productive expansion. It refers to an institution that is generally not corrupt; able to protect and enforce contracts; applies moderate and reasonable taxation and able to regulate proactively.
Domogan said that local officials should use the results of the competitiveness ranking as the basis of planning how to uplift the status of their respective LGUs.
A 100-percent participation was noted of the LGUs in the region, which proves their willingness to be assessed of their performance in delivering public service.
