Marcoses to commemorate Ferdinand’s 100th birthday at LNMB

MANILA, Philippines—The Marcoses had sent out invitations to commemorate the 100th birthday of former president Ferdinand Marcos.
As stated in the invitation sent to Akbayan Representative Tom Villarin that he showed to the media, the Marcos clan will hold a mass at 9:30 a.m. on September 11 at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) in Taguig where Marcos’s remains were interred November last year.
A short program and lunch will follow the mass.
Marcos was born on September 11, 1917 in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte.
He served in both houses of congress and became president in 1965. He was the longest serving Philippine president in history, seating from 1965 to 1986. In September 21, 1972, he put the country under martial law. He was eventually overthrown in 1986.
On November 8, 2016, the Supreme Court allowed the burial of Marcos at LNMB by rejecting petitions that called to stop his burial in the heroes’s cemetery. Ten days later, the former president was buried.
In anticipation of his 100th birthday, President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday signed Proclamation 310 that declared September 11 as Special Non-Working Day in Ilocos Norte.
