If you’re a person who doesn’t have any plans for the weekend but still want to hang out with your friends, this musical competition which will be staged by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) might suit your taste.

Based on a report of Manila Bulletin, PAGCOR will stage their first-ever grand musical competition entitled “Pili-Pinas (Piliin ang Pilipinas): A PAGCOR Musical,” at the CCP tomorrow, September 2.

The musical show highlights the diverse culture, tradition and festivities in the Philippines.

In an interview with Bulletin Entertainment, PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Andrea Domingo said that the event is necessary particularly in the age of social media where “it is so easy for many Filipinos to forget the beauty of folk traditions.”

The show will feature talented PAGCOR employees from different Casino Filipino (CF) branches and satellite offices in Angeles, Bacolod, Cebu, Davao, Ilocos, Olongapo, Tagaytay, and Metro Manila.

The competition is divided by four categories which are: Festival category, Legends category, Pinoy Fantasy category, and Cultural category.

Under the Festival category, the competitors are “The Panaad,” “Panagbenga,” and “Pintados.” For the Legends category there are the adaptation of the “Biag ni Lam-Ang,” “Ulo ng Apo,” and “Maria Sinukuan.”

Under Pinoy Fantasy category are “Aswang” and “Darna”, while “Dances of Luzon” lies under Cultural category.

The musician-turned-PAGCOR Assistant VP for Entertainment Jimmy Bondoc will be heading the said musical.

Bondoc said that it is the PAGCOR’s way of showcasing the best of the Philippines culture-wise. He added that participants of the competition took time from their busy work schedules to practice their performances.

Meanwhile, PAGCOR Chairman hopes the show will continue in the coming years. She said that art is part of our lives. According to her, there are a lot of people in their agency who are good in arts, paintings, and even sculpture.

Domingo hopes that other government agencies will engage themselves in this kind of cultural event.
