100 lady soldiers, cops to help in initial Marawi rehab

MANILA — Around 100 lady police officers and soldiers will be deployed in Marawi City to help in the initial cleaning and rehabilitation phase of the war-torn area.

Col. Edgard Arevalo, AFP public affairs office chief, said the contingent will consists of 40 enlisted military and 60 police personnel.

These personnel will be deployed to give the cleaning and rehabilitation phase a “feminine touch”.

Arevalo said these women will be leaving for Marawi City via Villamor Airbase, Pasay City on August 29.

As of 7 p.m. Monday, Maute Group terrorists killed in the ongoing Marawi City clearing operations are now placed at 585 along with 129 government troops and 45 civilians.

Weapons seized are at 648 and rescued civilians at 1,728.

Latest monitoring indicated that Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon, Omar and Abdullah Maute, the alleged leader of the Maute Group terrorists, are still inside the city.

Fighting in Marawi City broke out when government troops tried to arrest Hapilon and his cohorts last May 23.
