Comelec ready to issue voters certification to Marawi residents
MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is ready to issue voter certifications to registered voters in Marawi City.
But, Comelec Spokesperson Jame Jimenez noted that they do not know the number of people who have requested for the issuance of such document.
“As of today (Monday), our field offices are ready to issue these voter certifications. however, we havent received reports yet on the number of requests for certification and the number of certifications issued,” he said.
The poll body official added that they will be giving voter certification with picture.
“What we will be distributing will be voter certificatons, with picture. This is not a temporary voter ID strictly speaking,” Jimenez said.
Earlier, the Comelec en banc issued a resolution allowing the issuance of free temporary IDs to registered voters of Marawi, who were affected by the conflict between government forces and Maute group.
The issuance of such aims to help identify evacuees, who are often left without any proof of identities after being displaced.
Marawi City has over 54,000 registered voters.
