2017 SEA Games venues get MASOC approval
MANILA— Organizers of the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia have expressed satisfaction with the venues which will be used during the tournament.
Sports Minister YB Brig. Gen. Khairy Jamaluddin, who is also chairman of the Malaysia Organizing Committee (MASOC), has been inspecting the various competition venues since last week, the most recent was the 3Q Equestrian Centre in Kuang, a town in Selangor which is 30 minutes away by car from Malaysia’s capital city of Kuala Lumpur.
The 3Q Equestrian Centre, where the dressage and show jumping events will be held from August 22 to 28, has two stables that can accommodate 44 horses during the tournament.
The endurance event will be held at the International Endurance Park in Terengganu, a state in the eastern coast of Malaysia.
Seven gold medals are at stake in equestrian, one of 38 sports calendared in the SEA Games scheduled from Aug. 19 to 30.
Meanwhile, YB Brig. Gen Khairy has confirmed that change of archery competition venue from the Dataran Merdeka to the National Sports Council (NSC) archery field in Bukit Jalil.
“We decided to move the event to NSC archery field as Dataran Merdeka will be used for the Independence Day celebration. We are left with no choice but to move it to another venue,” said YB Brig. Gen. Khairy in a report from the 2017 KL SEA Games website.
“Ideally it would be great to have it at Dataran Merdeka as we can draw bigger crowd and spectators,” YB Brig Gen Khairy further said.
Ten gold medals are up for grabs in the individual and team divisions of the archery competition scheduled Aug. 16 to 22.
