Filipino film qualifies to Cannes Film Festival
A Filipino film gets a rare opportunity to be included in this year’s Cannes International Film Festival.
“Harvest,” a short film by the young filmmaker Pamela Ll. Reyes is the lucky one.
The 23-year-old Reyes shared the good news in an interview with InterAksyon.
“The film is actually a re-imagining of my earlier short film, ‘Unawa’. The basic story is by Mik (Mikhail Red,her boyfriend) and we developed it together. He was also the main cinematographer of the film,” she revealed.
“Harvest” is about “a young girl who works in a fishing village in the province of the Philippines who tries to reconnect with her deranged mother in the city,” Reyes said.
The film was accepted in the festival’s Court Metrage-Short Film Corner, which is designed to be a “meeting place for short film producers and directors to present their films, make meetings reality and take decisive steps for their future careers.”
Reyes was also credited for winning Best Short Film for “Ligaw” in last year’s CineFilipino film festival. She also produced the acclaimed Cinemalaya full-length feature “Rekorder”, directed by her boyfriend Mikhail Red.
