The Philippines is keeping its place among Asia’s top destinations for underwater adventures, earning the title of Asia’s Leading Dive Destination for the eighth consecutive year at the 2026 World Travel Awards.
The recognition was among six major Asia level awards received by the country during the World Travel Awards Asia, Oceania & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony.
The Philippines also retained its titles as Asia’s Leading Beach Destination and Asia’s Leading Island Destination, while Boracay was named Asia’s Leading Luxury Island Destination for the third consecutive year.
For the Department of Tourism, the latest dive award is more than a tourism accolade. Officials want to use the recognition to make diving a stronger part of the country’s tourism industry in the coming years.
Tourism Secretary Dita Angara Mathay said the department plans to improve access and logistics to dive destinations while expanding promotions highlighting the country’s marine and natural attractions.
The government also plans to focus on safety, tourism worker training and better services in dive and beach destinations.
The Philippines has a wide range of diving sites, from established destinations such as Anilao, Puerto Galera, Cebu and Bohol to marine attractions in Palawan and other parts of the country.
The latest World Travel Awards recognition comes as the tourism sector looks to turn the country’s international reputation for marine tourism into more visitors and stronger local economic activity.
With the Philippines now holding the dive title for eight straight years, the challenge for the industry is to sustain that reputation while making its underwater destinations more accessible, safe and appealing to both local and international travelers.
