The city’s cultural calendar is especially busy, with Fiesta Mexicana, Polish Festival Vancouver and Filipino Fest bringing music, food, traditions and performances to different parts of Metro Vancouver.
The weekend also features the stɑl̓əw̓ Pow-Wow, offering visitors an opportunity to experience Indigenous culture, dance, music and community.

The Vancouver Fringe Festival is back with more than 80 shows spanning theatre, comedy, dance, drag and music. Meanwhile, the Vancouver Queer Film Festival and Vancouver Latin American Film Festival continue through September 20, bringing diverse stories to screens across the city.
For theater lovers, Bard on the Beach continues its Shakespeare season, offering performances against the backdrop of Vancouver’s waterfront.
Ready to welcome the fall season?
The changing season takes center stage at Maan Farms and Taves Family Farms, where fall attractions begin September 12. Visitors can expect pumpkin patches, corn mazes and family activities as farms across the region embrace the arrival of autumn.
Meanwhile, Richmond Farm Fest on September 13 celebrates the region’s agricultural heritage with a free community event.
Is food your idea of a perfect weekend?
Then Vancouver has plenty on the menu.
Vancouver Hot Sauce Fest brings the heat, while Picklefest Vancouver celebrates everything from fermentation to creative pickle flavors. Both events offer food lovers another excuse to spend the weekend sampling something new.
Want to spend the weekend outdoors?
Cyclists can take on the RBC GranFondo Whistler on September 12, with riders traveling from Vancouver toward Whistler on a traffic-free route.
For something more relaxed, Car Free Day on Main Street will turn the popular Vancouver corridor into a pedestrian-friendly celebration filled with music, vendors, food and family activities.
Bringing the whole family?
The North Shore Kids Fest and the Dance Centre Open House offer family-friendly ways to spend the weekend, while free community events across Metro Vancouver make it possible to enjoy the city without necessarily spending big.
And for those who simply want to slow down, the weekend’s mix of markets, cultural gatherings, performances and outdoor events offers plenty of opportunities to wander and discover something unexpected.
So what makes this weekend worth stepping outside for?
Perhaps it is the variety.
Within just a few days, Vancouver can take you from Mexican celebrations to Filipino culture, from Shakespeare to live music, from farms to food festivals and from cycling routes to car-free streets.
As summer gives way to fall, the city is offering one more reminder that a weekend does not always need a major getaway.
Sometimes, the adventure is already happening around the corner.
