US – United States President Donald Trump said Monday that the US Navy maintains complete control of the Strait of Hormuz, even as he acknowledged Iran retains the ability to disrupt shipping through the strategic waterway.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said the US Navy is currently the only force in control of the Strait of Hormuz.
He described the naval blockade the US has placed on the strait as “infallible,” comparing it to a steel wall.
“We control the strait 100%,” Trump said.
The president said no vessel can enter or leave the strait without clearance from US command.
He added that Iran can still “make trouble” in the waterway, though he characterized the country as financially weakened.
