Additional Budget To End Gender Based Violence in Canada

CANADA – The Minister of Women and Gender Equality in Canada, Rechie Valdez, and her provincial and territorial counterparts, recently announced an additional $604.7 million investment to continue implementing the National Action Plan to End Gender Based Violence.

“Together, we’re heading prevent violence before it happens, supporting survivors, and building safer communities where everyone can thrive,” she said in a recent social media post.

The National Action Plan to End Gender Based Violence wants to achieve the shared vision of a country that supports victims, survivors, and their families, regardless of circumstance. Their goals include engaging Canadian citizens to change the social norms and imperatives that normalize GBV, address the social and economic factors to the phenomenon and improve it, and set out a framework where victims can have access to protection and services. It consists of five pillars: support for victims, survivors, and their families; prevention; responsive justice system; implementing indigenous-led approaches; finally, social infrastructure and enabling environment.
