MANILA – Following her historic run at Wimbledon, tennis star Alex Eala has confirmed her intention to compete at the upcoming Asian Games in Japan this September aiming for gold.
“Asian Games is in my plans,” said Eala in a press conference on Tuesday. When asked if she was going for gold she answered, “Am I going to… Yes”.
Eala made her Asian Games debut back in 2023 where she secured a bronze medal in both singles and mixed doubles.
The 21-year-old emphasized the unique honor and team spirit of representing the Philippines in regional multi-sport events like the Asian Games and the Southeast Asian Games, noting the different “vibe” compared to her individual WTA Tour appearances.
Last December’s SEA Games in Thailand, where she broke a 26-year gold medal drought for the country in women’s singles, an experience she described as “incredible” and “super motivating” as she prepares to give her best performance once again.
