NEW YORK CITY, USA — Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. met with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres at the UN Headquarters in New York on Monday, discussing a range of topics, including the country’s non-permanent seat bid on the UN Security Council.
According to the Presidential Communications Office, the bilateral meeting between Marcos and Guterres is a “strong testament to the Philippines’ long-standing partnership with the UN”, reaffirming its commitment to bolstering multilateral cooperation, as evidenced by its UNSC bid for the 2027 to 2028 term.
The UNSC elections will be held on June 3, 2026.
Marcos last met Guterres in October last year at the sidelines of the 47th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
