MANILA, Philippines — The House Committee on Justice is set to conduct its first hearing on Monday, March 2, over the impeachment complaints filed by various private individuals and civil society groups against Vice President Sara Duterte for her alleged involvement in massive corruption and culpable violations of the Constitution.
The hearing, which will be followed by other hearings on March 3 and 4, will be held by the justice panel to determine the sufficiency in form and substance of the filed complaints.
On Sunday, the civil society group Tindig Pilipinas announced to the press that it will withdraw its filed second impeachment complaint tomorrow and will instead support the third complaint filed by religious leaders and lawyers.
The group said the move aims to unify support and expedite the process in the lower chamber so that it can be transferred to the Senate, whose officials will sit as the impeachment court should the articles of impeachment be voted on by one-third of the House members.
