MANILA, Philippines – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered the nationwide enforcement of the Anti-Epal Drive, under Memorandum 2026-006.
This requires the removal of the likeness of public officials from any and all government projects that are funded by government funds and are completed in the interest of public welfare.
This directive has actually been a long time coming. Back in 2010, Memorandum Circular No. 2010-101 had already stated that the use of these signages had been abused by public officials “for their personal interests” and “has taken the credit away from taxpayers who are the ones paying for such programs or projects through their tax payment”.
Currently, the DILG expects strict compliance with this policy, directing all provincial, city, municipal, and barangay officials, including DILG and all its attached agencies, to require the immediate removal of anything violating these protocols.
Any person found in violation shall be held criminally liable in accordance with the pertinent laws.
