MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives referred Monday the two verified impeachment complaints against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to the House Committee on Justice.
This move triggered the one-year ban rule, prohibiting the filing of other possible complaints against Marcos hereon.
To recall, the first impeachment complaint was filed by Atty. Andre de Jesus on January 19, mainly citing the administration’s surrender of former president Rodrigo Duterte to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and failure to veto the 2026 budget’s unprogrammed appropriations, among others.
Meanwhile, the second impeachment complaint was filed on January 26 by the progressive group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) and House members of the Makabayan bloc, with grounds against the President including betrayal of public trust, the use of Baselined-Balanced-Managed or the BBM Parametric Formula for infrastructure allocations, and alleged involvement in the budgetary insertions and kickback schemes.
